Marcio Almeida, aka “Grillo” started surfing when he was 10 years old in Maresias. After short boarding for a few years, Marcio began to progress in longboarding and collected some good results in longboarding competitions. He was soon after introduced to SUP surfing and has since never stopped. It was become his favourite surfing discipline which shows in his array of accolades in the sport. He proved his extraordinary abilities in APP’s virtual SUP surfing competition, APP Ride of the Season, in 2020. Marcio beat out the best surfers in the world with his double barrel entry with which he was crowned champion of the event. 2020 was certainly Marcio’s year as has was also crowned Brazilian Big Wave Champion.
