QUALIFICATION
The APP World Tour brings the World's very best athletes to the some of the World's most iconic and high profile Cities for a spectacle like no other, while embracing participation at every level through its @citypaddlefestival approach and providing a unique access point to the World Championship Tour platform for aspiring athletes.
The final schedule for the 2022 season of the APP World Tour has now been released, providing a dynamic, high profile series of events to challenge the World's very best and entertain on site and online spectators alike as the Tour returns to Center Stage once again in 2022.
**Important Note**
Please note that the below information relates only to the APP World Championship Tour in terms of qualification: all other divisions hosted at APP World Tour will feature open, unrestricted entries to allow participation at every level, from Pro-Am down to entry level and fun racing. Registration for all events will open shortly.
RACING
Overview:
In 2022, the Racing Tour will consist of 7 events:

There will be a total of 7 Events on the APP World Racing Tour in 2022 that each* feature both a sprint racing elimination and distance race. (*The exception to this will be Paris, an event that will feature only Distance Racing in 2022)

The combined result from Athletes' best 5 sprint and 5 distance results will determine the Overall World Champion for both Men and Women, as well as discipline Champions for the Tour (i.e. Distance & Sprint)

Prize-money levels for 2022 are set at a minimum of EUR 25,000 per event, with 50% of this being awarded to the Sprint discipline (EUR 12,500) and 50% to the distance (EUR 12,500), with final prize-money breakdown to be announced following consultation with the Athlete Advisory Board that will be formally introduced prior to the 2022 season.
The APP has provided a global qualification process for the 2022 season that collaborates with existing regional events to honor the top 2 men and women with a spot on tour. The Qualification Series for 2022 are as follows:

South America Qualifier: Aloha Spirit Festival, Brazil (completed)

European Qualifier: Vendee Gliss, France 14th – 15th May

Asian Qualifier: Busan, Korea 3rd – 5th June

North American Qualifier: USA Surfing Championships, Oceanside California 14th – 18th June
Qualification for the 2022 APP World Racing Tour:
Below we have outlined the pre-qualified athletes for the Elite APP World Championship Tour line up for 2022. This line up consists of:

The Top 20 Men and Top 14 Women from the 2019 season and the 2021 qualifiers.

Qualifiers from the North America, South American, European, and Asian Regional Qualifying Events

International** and local*** Wildcard Awards based on competitive history and performances to date.

The Total Field for Men in 2022 will be 32 and for Women, 24.
(Please note that the participation number difference from Men to Women is based on historic participation levels on the APP World Tour. Should demand increase for Women participation, the APP will of course increase the Women’s field.)
**Additional International Wildcards & Alternates
Two international Wildcards for both Men and Women have been awarded for the Tour based on exceptional performances and on Committee approval. For 2022, these are:

It should also be noted that we have a long list of alternates from wildcard submissions that will replace any pre-qualified athletes who are not able to attend. All pre-qualified athletes will need to confirm their attendance at each event a minimum of 45 days prior to the event, thereby allowing alternates the chance to prepare and plan travel in the case of spots in the Main Event opening up.
***Local Wildcards
In addition to the above pre-qualified athletes, 2 local wildcards will be awarded in conjunction with each event for both Men and Women to celebrate local talent through the APP's spotlight. Local Wildcard submissions for specific events can also be made through the regular communications channel at athletes@appworldtour.com
Please note that aspiring APP Athletes should still attend any and all events that they can, as even if the Main Event is full, we will have a Pro-Am component across all events, and in the case of any no shows, alternates that are on site at the event can take advantage of any open spots in the Main Event. Travel Assistance
Given the continued challenging environment as it relates to global travel, the APP is here to support its athletes and work on solutions to facilitate their participation on Tour, such as formal authorization letters or invitations. In addition, we will be releasing detailed information regarding board logistics for the 2022 season shortly, so stay tuned. SURFING
Overview:
In 2022, the Surfing Tour will consist of 3 events:

There will be a total of 3 Events on the APP World Surfing Tour in 2022

The combined result from Athletes' 3 results will determine the Overall World Champion for both Men and Women, with no discards for this season

The Primary Discipline is standard SUP Surfing, although a Longboard SUP division will be introduced in both Morocco and Gran Canaria
