Rui Horikoshi was taught to Stand Up Paddle surf when he was just 10 years old by his father, which is no surprise as he grew up in a very ocean-oriented house hold. His brother is a professional surfer, his sister is a professional SUP surfer and his father founded the Standup Paddle Premium League in Japan.

After spending everyday at the beach and trying out various boards, Rui was crowned the APP Sunset Beach Under 18 Champion and the champion of SUPA. When he is not SUP surfing he is skateboarding and surfing.
