Excitement is building in Wrightsville Beach as the APP World Tour prepares for a full weekend of racing action from the 6th – 7th November. Saturday will see athletes compete in the gruelling 13.1-mile Graveyard Race and Sunday will see them battling stormy conditions in the APP’s signature Surf Sprint race.
The forecast is predicting strong winds and 4-7 feet waves this weekend, promising an epic 5-mile downwind section for the Graveyard Race, as well as an exciting, yet challenging, course for the APP surf sprints.
Here is the word from APP veteran, Connor Baxter, on the approaching swell:
“I’m feeling really excited about the conditions this weekend. The surf that is potentially coming in will provide a real spectacle for spectators, as well as making it fun for the competitors. Coming in and out the surf is one of the most exciting races to compete in.”
2019 Vice-Champion April Zilg has predictions on who will thrive in the tricky conditions.: “Sunday will be choppy, so it is going to be a very technical race. It just your average day for the Danes, however. I am looking at Casper Steinfath, Christian Andersen and Caroline Kuntzel. They are used to these conditions.”
As well as keeping an eye on Team Denmark, watch out for 2018 World Champion Arthur Arutkin from France and Pan-Am Bronze Medalist Itzel Delgado from Peru, but also dark horses such as Rai Taguchi and Shuri Araki from Japan, as well as local talent Campbell Carter. The International attendance of talented athletes makes for a competitive and thrilling race.
Due to the event’s nature this year, the APP World Tour will not be doing a live broadcast, but will instead be focusing on live Social Media updates, scores and results with highlight videos at the end of each day. Tune in from 9am every day @appworldtour and www.appworldtour.com for live story and post updates to keep in the loop of all the action.
