SPOTTER BUOY DATA

SOUTHEAST OF JAPAN - SPOTTER 217

Super typhoon Hagibis passed this station almost a week. Nothing new here. Wave heights keep coming down over coming week.

NORTHEAST OF JAPAN - SPOTTER 373

Calm condition with some energy building Saturday and increase in wave intensity early next week.

NEAR ALEUTIANS - SPOTTER 349

The hindcast is in great agreement with our observations. This is an important validation of the forecast.

NORTHWEST OF HAWAII - SPOTTER 224

A nice little northwest swell coming in at this site.

WEST OF SAN FRANCISCO - SPOTTER 320

This site is closest to Ocean Beach, San Francisco (about 200 miles west). The forecast has been consistent for the last week, with an increase to about 5m (16’) wave heights later today. The wave height is increasing already and the model and observations remain in excellent agreement. This suggests that we’ll be hitting 16” waves offshore, and should provide energetic conditions at Ocean Beach Friday morning!
